Tommy Wood, Owner, Sales & Service, Lead Engineer
Tommy Wood is a mechanical engineer, as well as a general contractor and NABCEP Associate. He began installations of solar thermal systems in 1998. Tommy kept a keen interest in PV systems but never found them commercially viable in South Carolina until 2014 when Act 236 became law. An opportunity arose in 2015 to install a ground-mounted residential array. It was a huge success, and Southeast SolarPros was born. At the time, Tommy was employed by Duke Energy as a mechanical and electrical engineer at their Oconee Nuclear Station. This background and training has instilled Tommy’s ethics of safety and quality. In 2016, Tommy resigned from Duke to operate Southeast SolarPros full-time. Much to his delight, the feedback from county and utility inspectors has consistently been that SSP’s work is the best that they have encountered. This is reinforced by receiving the Angie’s List Super Service award, the BBB A+ credential, and the Columbia Metropolitan Magazine Best Solar Company of 2019, 2020, and 2021 awards. The accolade that makes Tommy the most proud, however, was when the Lexington County electrical inspector, who inspects every solar panel installation in the county, called Tommy to hire Southeast SolarPros for his own PV array.
